(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomington Police have made an arrest in the Dollar General Store robbery.

Police arrested 32-year-old Jason L. Burkhart on felony charges of robbery, attempted robbery and a misdemeanor charge of theft.

According to police, on July 17, officers were called to the store in the 3600 block of west 3rd Street after a report of an attempted robbery. The suspect had lifted his shirt, displayed a handgun that was tucked in his waistband to a store clerk and demanded money. The suspect was not immediately given money, so he fled the area.

Then on July 29th, police were again called to the same store after a report of an armed robbery. Video surveillance showed the same male suspect from the 17th incident approach a clerk at a cash register.

The man pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the clerk and demanded money. He then fled the store after receiving cash from the register.

Investigators says exterior surveillance video showed the man running from the store and getting into a small tan station wagon and fleeing the area.

After further investigation, police were able to identify the man as Burkhart and obtained a search warrant for his vehicle and home.

On Thursday, detectives located Burkhart at his home in the 300 block of west Gordon Pike. He was arrested without without incident. Officers searched his vehicle and home and found items related to the crime and they were seized as evidence.
