(BLOOMINGTON) - A Wednesday morning crash shut down State Road 37 and sent a Bloomington man to the hospital.

The accident happened at 7:30 a.m. when a southbound Ford passenger vehicle was approaching Bryant's Creek Road and collided head-on with a northbound 2007 International semi inside the State Road 37/ I-69 construction zone.

Indiana State Police say they are not sure why 29-year-old Ryan Dixon drove left of center and failed to negotiate the right hand curve. Dixon was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be freed by emergency crews. He was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the semi, 58-year-old Steven Levin of Bloomington, was not injured during the incident.

Assisting at the scene - Morgan County Sheriff's Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Department, IU-Health Bloomington EMS, Bloomington Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department & I69 Development Partners. Indiana State Police Sgt. Ryan Miller is the investigating officer.
