Last updated on Thursday, September 22, 2016

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after police say he yanked a woman and her baby out of a vehicle at Hardee’s Wednesday night.

Police arrested 21-year-old Jacob G. Deckard, of 181 McIntyre Bottom Road, on charges of domestic battery, domestic battery in the presence of a minor and neglect of a dependent.

Bedford Police officers were called at 10:08 p.m. Wednesday to Hardee's at 1510 16th St., after a woman reported Deckard had thrown her and her newborn baby out of the car.

When police arrived the found the visibly upset woman and her 3-week-old baby.

The woman told police Deckard got upset and started to call her names as they were driving. He eventually pulled over near Hardee's and pulled her out of the car and shoved her.

Chief Dennis Parsley says Deckard then grabbed the car seat with the 3-week-old in it, yanked it out of the car and threw it down and drove off leaving the woman and baby.

A relative picked the woman up, and they met police at Hardee's.

The woman gave police a description of Deckard's car and that he was probably going to a home on Maddox Lane.

Bedford Police requested the assistance of Lawrence County police who went to the home on Maddox Lane where they found Deckard in his vehicle in the driveway. Deckard was then arrested.

The woman and the baby were taken by private vehicle to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for a medical evaluation.
