(MITCHELL) - When the replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall enters Lawrence County it will be escorted by hundreds of law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and motorcycles, in a convoy that will start in Judah and travel into Mitchell.

Law enforcement will have all the intersections along the way blocked while the wall travels down Ind. 37 and into Mitchell.

Anyone can join the escort says Veteran's Affairs officer Terry Sorrells.

A Facebook event has been set up for those interested in joining the motorcade. It's called, "Mitchell Persimmon Festival Vietnam Wall Escort" or by calling (812) 278-0247.

The wall is an 8-by-360-foot replica and it is the largest traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It will arrive in Judah at Johnny Junxions on Wednesday September 21 at 2 p.m. and then be escorted to Mitchell.

Sorrells says the wall will be erected the next morning beginning at 8 a.m. at Mitchell City Hall, on South Sixth Street,

"We are looking for volunteers to help," Sorrells added. "We will need a minimum of 15 people to erect the wall and then to dismantle it on that Sunday, (September 25) at 2 p.m."

Once the wall is up, two guards will stand watch 24-hours a day until the wall is dismounted.

The American Legion Gillen Post No. 33 made a $1,000 donation to the Persimmon Festival to help toward the costs associated with bringing in the Traveling Wall.
