Teen Suffers Serious Injuries After Texting And Driving

(SPRINGVILLE) - A Loogootee teen suffered serious injuries after she attempted to read a text message and crashed her vehicle on Ind. 54 near Reuter Lane Monday night.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 17-year-old Kailey Meadows was attempting to open a text message on her cell phone to read while traveling east on Ind. 54. Her 2004 Toyota Rav4 traveled off the right side of the road, ran over an embankment and crashed into three trees.

Kailey suffered multiple fractures during the incident.

She was taken by an IU Health Hospital ambulance to the Springville Elementary School and then flown by helicopter to the University of Louisville for treatment.

Assisting at the scene was Perry Volunteer Fire Department and Bedford Fire Department extrication unit.
