The City of Bedford, the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council and the Lawrence County Council are financially supporting the career counselor initiative for BNL.

A career coach will be be employed by Ivy Tech Community College of Bloomington. Recruiting, hiring and facilitating will be done by Regional Opportunities Initiatives Inc., a nonprofit organization established to advance the economic and community prosperity of an 11-county areas that includes Lawrence, Orange, Martin, Washington and Greene counties. Participating school districts will be involved in the hiring of counselors.

According to officials, the program will allow partnering school districts to receive the services of a graduation and career coach who willl work closely with school administrators and counseling teams - to support a targeted group of students in need of intense academic and career planning and coaching.

Schools signing up to offer the counseling will experience varying financial implications. While there is no match or financial commitment on the part of the school corporation, the school will be required to provide a space at the school for the career coaches to work with students.
