(CROTHERSVILLE) - A state trooper injured in a crash Friday night on Interstate 65 south of Crothersville has been released from Schneck Medical Center.

According to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles,Trooper Michael Thiron was responding to a report of a vehicle sliding into a cable barrier in that area when his 2013 Dodge Charger was hit in the rear end by a 2012 Freightliner driven by 30-year-old Patrick Gregory of Indianapolis.

Thiron, who has been a state trooper for about a year, was treated for possible head injuries by medical personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services before being taking to Seymour.

Thiron was driving northbound on the interstate at about 9 p.m. Friday when the wreck occurred.

With his emergency lights activated, Thiron's squad car was hit as he attempted to pull over into the median where the vehicle from an early crash was sitting.

Thiron's vehicle spun into the median and came to rest against the cable barrier, Wheeles said.

Northbound lanes were slow for approximately two hours for crash investigation and cleanup. The investigation is ongoing.

Trooper Matt Holley is investigating the wreck. He was assisted by numerous other state troopers, officers with the Crothersville Police Department and personnel with the Vernon Township Fire Department.
