Police Looking For Man Claiming To Be Officer

(UNDATED) - Police are looking for a man who is claiming to be a police officer and reportedly pulled over a woman early Sunday morning near the Jackson/Lawrence County line.

The woman was not injured during the incident and managed to get away from the man after becoming suspicious of his activities, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

The woman called the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department at 4:23 a.m. reporting that she had been stopped by a man she believed was impersonating a police officer. She told police she was driving west on U.S. 50 near near the county line when she noticed a flashing strobe lights behind her.

The woman pulled over and a male wearing a gray sweatshirt with a hood stopped and approached her vehicle. The man was driving a red-colored truck.

The man identified himself as an officer with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and said he had pulled her over for speeding. The woman told police the man did not have a badge and was not wearing a uniform.

He then told her to keep driving a little farther to find a safe place to pull over.

At that point, the woman she drove away and decided not to stop because she was suspicious of the man and his intentions.

Once she crossed into Lawrence County the man passed her vehicle and continued west on U.S. 50.

The man is described as having short hair, buggy eyes and a skinny face.

Officers from both departments responded to the area searching for the red-colored truck, but were unable to locate it.
