Last updated on Monday, August 1, 2016

(DUFF) - 27-year-old Cody A. Keith was on his way to training at the National Guard Armory in Jasper when he drove into a Norfolk Southern train Thursday night at the County Road 600 West crossing, just outside of Duff.

There was not a gate at this crossing, but the lights were reported to be working properly. When police arrived they found the truck on the south side of the tracks off the road, with Keith dead inside the truck.

Dubois County Coroner Bob Veatch says Keith died instantly.

Crews worked for more than an hour to free his body from the wreckage. The road was closed for three hours while officials investigated the accident.

Keith is the son of Jeff and Sue Keith of Washington and a 2007 graduate of Washington High School. He, his wife, and son were living in Evansville at the time of the accident.

The incident is still under investigation and further details will be released later.

Assisting at the scene were the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department, Huntingburg First Responders, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Dubois County Coroner's Office and a Sternberg's wrecker assisted at the scene.
