Last updated on Thursday, August 4, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - Judi Johnson Coffey is Monroe County’s new sex crimes deputy prosecutor. The new position, made possible through a grant from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, will specialize in sexual assault and child abuse cases.

The Herald Times reports that Coffey currently serves as supervisory deputy for the Indiana Attorney General's Prescription Drug Diversion Investigations program. She was previously the director of Medicaid fraud investigations for the state Family and Social Services Administration. She began her legal career as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Marion County.

The Monroe County Prosecutor's Office led the creation of the Sexual Assault Response Team and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner programs in 2009, and then helped develop Susie's Place child advocacy center in 2010.
