(BLOOMFIELD) - A former Bloomfield man was arrested on a series of charges pertaining to failing to register as a sex offender and violating his probation
Sabrina Stockrahm of the Greene County Daily World reports and 33-year-old Joshua Tobias Cox of Sullivan was booked into Greene County Jail Sunday on warrants for possession of a controlled substance, petition to revoke a suspended sentence and failure to register as a sex offender.
Bond was set at $4,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bloomfield Town Marshal Kenneth Tharp, on August 12, the officer learned from Greene County Sheriff's Department Sex Offender Registrar Denise Andrew that Cox last registered with a C Street address in Bloomfield on April 1.
Cox was convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony, in June 2008, and is required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
A resident at the registered address advised Cox no longer lived there on April 26.
Tharp checked the residence four times to verify if Cox was living there, but each time the resident told the officer Cox was no longer living there. On July 28, Tharp reported Greene County Sheriff's Department Special Deputy Bruce Porter also visited the C Street address in Bloomfield to verify Cox's registration, and the resident informed him Cox had not resided at the resident in about four months, and he was living in Sullivan.
On August 17, Superior Court Probation Officer Patrick Hillenburg filed a petition to revoke a suspended sentence pertaining to a negotiated plea agreement entered by Cox in January of this year. Cox pleaded guilty to Class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. His sentence of one year with all but 26 days suspended was contingent upon his compliance with the terms of probation, including not committing another criminal offense and not use, possess or transport controlled substances unless legally prescribed.
The petition to revoke details several instances since April in which Cox allegedly violated the terms of his probation. It was reported on April 21, Cox reportedly stole a package of Imodium caplets, on Feb. 10 he tested positive for THC during a urine drug screen, on July 20 tested positive for morphine and failed to update his address with the sex offender register within 72 hours.
