(LOOGOOTEE) - An 8-year-old boy is responsible for causing the lockdown at both Loogootee Elementary and High School on Monday.

According to Loogootee Police Chief Kelly Rayhill, the 911 phone call was made by an 8-year-old male elementary student at 11:49 a.m. from a landline phone in the school.

The student called 911 and told the dispatcher that he was locked in a room and a gunman was in the hallway trying to break down the door to kill him.

A report of a "man with a gun" led to the lockdown of both schools.

Officers from both the Martin County Sheriff's Department, Loogootee, Indiana State Police and Conservation officers responded to the scene.

Sheriff Travis Roush says officers searched the elementary school, parking lots and then the junior-senior high school before giving the all clear.

According to Chief Rayhill, it is unknown at this time what punishment the boy will receive.
