(DAVIESS CO.) - The Daviess County Airport is preparing to expand and improve its taxiway as part of an overall five-year plan that is expected to include extending the runway to 5,001 feet.

Daviess County Airport Manager Jack Miles told the Washington Times Herald the Airport Board has been putting together a plan to expand the airport facilities and operations over the last 10 years. The longer runway is part of the plan that extends into the year 2020.

Right now the project includes expanded taxiways at a cost of $672,185. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to pick up 90 percent of the cost, the Indiana Department of Transportation 4 percent and Daviess County will pay $40,331.60 as the local match.

They hope to get the work done this fall, which will take about 30 days to complete.
