(SPRINGVILLE) - Bridge 113 will be replaced.
Lawrence County Highway Superintendent David Holmes say crews began work today to remove the old structure and prepare the area for a new bridge.
The bridge over Spring Creek was closed after an accident in July knocked out a pier from under the bridge and caused other substantial damage. The bridge is located between Popcorn and Harrodsburg roads.
Bridge inspectors ordered the bridge closed.
Holmes hopes to straighten the bridge and expand it from 35 to 39 feet.
The project should take approximately 8 weeks to complete.
