Corpse Flower Blooms At IU's Jordan Greenhouse

Last updated on Monday, August 1, 2016

(BLOOMINGTON) - The corpse flower is beginning to bloom at the Jordan Greenhouse on the campus of Indiana University.

The rare Amorphophallus titatum plant has grown to over six feet tall, more than four feet in less than two weeks.

The one in Bloomington has been in the IU greenhouse since 2007 and has never bloomed.

The plant is called a 'corpse flower' because it produces the odor of a rotting animal.
