Last updated on Wednesday, August 31, 2016

(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly hit a woman with an electrical cord.

Bedford Police arrested 39-year-old Kevin Shaw of Bedford on a charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

Assistant Chief Joe DeWees says the incident happened around 8 p.m. Friday when Shaw came to the woman's home in the 500 block of H Street and started asking about pills.

She told Shaw to leave and about an hour later he showed up again. She again asked him to leave.

"He grabbed an electrical cord and started striking her with it," DeWees says.

The woman put up her hands to protect herself and suffered multiple cuts on her arm.

The woman told police she believed Shaw had cut her with a knife.

After the fight, Shaw left the home and the woman went to the hospital for treatment.

She reported the battery on Saturday. After taking the woman's statement, officers went to Shaws home and arrested him.

He remains in jail on a $20,000 surety or $2,005 cash bond.
