(WASHINGTON) - A Washington man currently accused of multiple counts of child molesting had been arrested for child molesting before, but was not on the Daviess County Sex Offenders List.

53-year-old Robert D. Allen is facing two felony county of child molesting after a woman accused him of abusing her daughters, both under the age of 14.

Those incidents happened July 2009 and June 2016.

Police say Allen had been arrested and convicted in Lawrence County, Illinois in 2003, but was not on the sex offender list.

Daviess County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Sturgis told the Washington Tribune he is still looking into the conviction, but believes Allen's case had gone beyond the time limits for being on the sex offender list.

People convicted of a sex offense are normally placed on the list for 10 years or longer or for life.

It appears Allen's case had required a 10-year reporting time, which took him off the list.

Allen is being held in the Daviess County Jail on $500,000 bond.

He is also facing civil actions in Gibson County in connection with an accident that killed two immigrant workers from Washington. Allen was the owner of an overloaded van that was traveling at a high rate of speed on I-69 when a tire blew out and the vehicle rolled over killing two of the passengers. His son, James Allen, was driving the van and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of marijuana and is serving a 14-year sentence.
