(BLOOMINGTON) - Though the Walcott family’s Old Homestead Shop only sold antiques for a few years in the 1970s, its unique appeal drew the attention of the national television show “American Pickers” this past spring.
Titled "Planes, Frames and Automobiles," Kevin and Mike Walcott's episode of the History Channel series will air tonight at 9 p.m. The show, which follows two antique buyers -- Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz -- in their cross-country hunt for collectibles, was shot at one of the Walcott's properties on West Ratilff Road over 12 hours on a Saturday in April.
The Herald Times reports that Kevin and Mike's father, Jack, opened Old Homestead Shop in 1971 to such wild success that he couldn't keep his shelves stocked. The store's ultimate demise came about three years later when the family decided to pursue other business interests. Then, in the 1980s, the Walcott Family band put out two albums, copies of which spent 30 years sitting in the log cabin store until being used to sweeten a deal with the two television hosts.
The host scavenged for antiques in three buildings for antique toy cars, a sign from a now defunct petroleum company out of Terre Haute and even some architectural structures from an old church in Ellettsville.
