(SOLSBERRY) - The Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum in Solsberry, will be holding their last chance for the public to have the opportunity to create a cast iron relief sculpture on Saturday from 3 p.m. until midnight.
Known as the 'Annual Fire @ Night', the event offers participants a fun-filled evening of hiking, entertainment, food, art and collaboration with artists from all over the country as well the United Kingdom, according to their official website.
Keely Slaven, of the Greene County Daily World reports, the Foundry Crew will start pouring iron as the sun sets, giving plenty of time to explore the trails and make a scratch block masterpiece.
Gerry Masse will be leading much of the event, and said there is no need for public to pre-register as they have an ample amount of scratch blocks ranging in size.
The event is free to watch and the cost for a regular scratch block or hook is $20, with larger scratch blocks costing $50 and $100, said Masse.
Scratch blocks can also be picked up anytime and worked on prior to the event.
Masse said the blocks are available from 'basically sun up until sun down' for both purchase and pick-up.
"Totally Tunes DJ" will arrive around 5:30 p.m. for music and entertainment throughout the day.
Food and refreshments will be provided by 'Weaver's Smoke Eaters BBQ' and 'Kona Shaved Ice' around 5:30 p.m.
Children's entertainer Dave Weigand with 'Octopus Ink' will also arrive around 5:30 p.m.
Fire dancers and fire blowing performances will be put on through the evening starting at 8 p.m. until midnight.
Artists who participated in the Cast Iron Workshop will be in attendance filling huge sand molds they have been working on all month long.
Six furnaces are scheduled to run throughout the day, with Boston's Paul Watson starting at 3 p.m. Watson will run his furnace deep in the woods for a cast iron exhibition.
At 5 p.m. the Trails Hell Pig Furnace is scheduled to run until 6 p.m.
Starting at 6 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. will be the Memphis Metal Museum crew with a guest furnace.
Andrew Marsh and 'Devil's Night Iron Works' foundry will hold a 'Twilight Cast-iron Explosive Performance' until 10 p.m.
The 'Lady Roy' furnace will run from 8 p.m. until the grand finale starting at 9 p.m. with the 'Lady D' furnace running through midnight.
The Old Tobacco Barn Art Gallery will feature art by the Sculpture Trails interns from 4-8 p.m. as well as some shopping time at the 'Secret Little Shoppe'.
Interested participants are urged to arrive early to get the most out of this once-in-a-lifetime experience to also have time to explore the trails in daylight.
This full-day event will occur rain or shine, according to the official Facebook event page.
The crew at the Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum have been preparing for this event all week and have held cast iron sculpture workshops open to the public from 10-5 p.m for the entire month of July.
Masse said last year the event crew poured around 6000 lbs of iron and looks forward to more this year.
He said around five artists and 20 interns will be in attendance to both pour and assist the public in their creations.
The event is the last of several held this summer at the outdoor museum. The trails self-identify themselves as "...dedicated to bringing fine art and education to the community in a non-intimidating and natural environment through various hands-on workshops."
The trails are located in the hills of Solsberry, Ind. at 6764 N Tree Farm Rd. and are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
