(MITCHELL) - An Oolitic man suffered internal head injuries after being struck by a car Saturday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, officers responded to the accident on Ind. 60 West near Springhaven Road at 10:05 a.m.

Police say 72-year-old Elery Kirkman was injured after a driver lost control of her vehicle and struck him while he was sealcoating a driveway in the 2110 block of Ind. 60 West.

Police say 83-year-old Dorothy Seville of New Albany was traveling west on Ind. 60 West, west of Springhaven Road, however was two feet off the white fog line of the roadway. That is where her 2001 Buick Lucerne struck a F-550 flatbed-style Ford Econoline carrying a cargo tank of asphalt sealant parked on the side of the road. No one was in the truck.

Seville's car struck the front of the bed of the truck and the right rear dually tires in an opposite direction sideswipe. The truck was pushed from where it was parked, completely off the roadway.

Seville's car then spun around and entered the driveway where it struck Kirkman who was working sealing the driveway.

Kirkman was taken by ambulance to IU Bloomington Hospital for treatment.

Seville, who suffered minor bleeding to her elbow and lower arm, told police she couldn't remember anything about the accident.
