New Volunteer Center Of Greene County To Be Established Thanks To Grant

Last updated on Wednesday, July 13, 2016

(BLOOMFIELD) - Due to a recent grant awarded to Generations Area 13 Agency on Aging and Disability by Serve Indiana, a new Volunteer Center of Greene County will be established.

Generations is currently in the process of contacting non-profit agencies with service needs and recruiting volunteers willing to share their time and talents performing services to help meet those needs.

All ages are welcome in this countywide organization.

"This is a chance for all interested residents of Greene County to come together," said Kristy Lewellyn, Community Outreach Coordinator for the organization told the Greene County Daily World. "For over 40 years, Generations has had volunteer programs that were managed very successfully, and the opportunity came up for Greene County." added Lewellyn.

Non-profit agencies needing volunteers to help them achieve their organization's goals, or those wishing to know more information may contact Kristy Lewellyn at (812)-699-1601 or email Lewellyn at kristylewellyn@gmail.com.

Those interested in opportunities to volunteer may contact Sandy Carpenter atsscarpenter@gmail.com or by phone at (812) 381-0441.

Volunteers will receive program orientation, and will be matched to assignments based on their interests, abilities and preferences.

The Center plans to look long-term to learn what the specific needs are for Greene County's residents and non-profit organizations, and will have an online portal, where volunteers can apply and be matched up with agencies or non-profits in need of their passions or skill sets.

"Now we get to step it up and help build our non-profits to higher and better levels, with the help of skilled and qualified volunteers, especially with the amazing talent and spirit we have here in Greene County," Lewellyn added with a smile.

The Volunteer Center of Greene County grant is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, with a match from Generations, a program of Vincennes University's Community Services Division.
