Last updated on Tuesday, July 19, 2016

(SPRINGVILLE) - A man was arrested Friday during the ABATE Boogie after screaming profanities and then attempted to hit an ABATE security person.

Police arrested 32-year-old Joshua Stuart after he walked from the Lawrence County Recreational Park onto Camel Barn Road.

"An off-duty officer working security at the gate stopped Mr. Stuart, who was obviously impaired to the point that he was a danger to himself," Sheriff Mike Branham says. "Mr. Stuart was uncooperative and loud, shouting profanities, and was told multiple times to calm down by the officer. Mr.Stuart then attempted to hit an ABATE gate security person and was immediately arrested, being a danger to others as well."

Stuart, who told police he was homeless, was arrested on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

An on-duty officer transported Stuart from the scene to the Lawrence County Security Center.
