(LINTON) - Greene County emergency personnel are gearing up for the Seventh Annual National Night Out scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Linton Police Chief Troy Jerrell, who organizes the annual event, says he expects a great turnout in terms of vendors and patrons again this year as local police and other emergency personnel gather at Linton's Humphreys Park to mingle with people of the community.

The event will run from 4:30-8:30 p.m. It is free to all participants

National Night Out is a nationwide event geared toward bringing local police and the community together. Linton Police Department began hosting a local event in 2010, and it has since grown to encompass several area agencies.

"In my opinion, it's a great place for police departments and the community to get together. This event has more police and public safety personnel in one place than any other time," Jerrell says.

Representatives from LPD, Jasonville Police Department, Greene County Sheriff's Department, Worthington Police Department, Lyons Police Department, Bloomfield Police Department, Indiana State Police and Department of Natural Resource (DNR) Conservation Officers will be at the park to meet with the people they serve.

Indiana State Police and Wabash Valley Correctional Facility plan to perform K9 demonstrations.

The annual event also invites businesses and organizations from around the county to set up in the park and pass out information and products to people from the community.

Jerry and Gayle Margraf will once again be offering free hot dogs during the event, and other local restaurants are encouraged to offer free samples during the event.

Jerrell stressed just because one organization is already on the list, does not mean another cannot attend. The registration deadline for vendor space is July 20. Applications are available at the Linton Police Department, or by contacting Jerrell at the department at (812) 847-4411.

There will be live entertainment, presented by the Matt Watson Band, and a wide variety of prizes will be available throughout the night. Tara Orman will be singing the National Anthem.
