GM Foundation Donates $35,000 To Area Organizations Through Community Grants Program

(BEDFORD) - General Motors Bedford Casting Operations presented $35,000 in grants to six Bedford nonprofit organizations through its Community Grants program.

The grant presentation took place at the BBQ @ The Quarry event, which is part of Bedford's annual Limestone Heritage Festival.

"The organizations that we support are vital in the continued development of the local community, and through the ongoing efforts of the GM Foundation, we are proud to play a part in giving back," says Gareth Jolly, plant manager, Bedford Casting Operations.

Funded by the GM Foundation, the GM Community Grants will support the following Bedford nonprofit organizations and community programs:

US FIRST ROBOTICS - Bedford - support for hands on learning activities
and competitions in robotics engineering for local students.
United Way of South Central Indiana - support for United Way organizations providing local services in the community.
LIFE Food Pantry - support for Blessings in a Backpack food program for
children in surrounding schools.
Hoosier Uplands - support of community playground construction including
equipment for children with disabilities.
STEM Education Program - Bedford - support for Project Lead the Way
Engineering Program at North Lawrence School.
STELLAR PROJECT - support of community development, housing and education.

"This year, the GM Community Grants program will provide nearly $2 million in funding to hundreds of organizations in 47 communities where GM employees live and work," says GM Foundation Vice President Lori Wingerter. "Through these community grants, the GM is building stronger communities and enriching the lives of its neighbors."
