First Day Of School For Bloomfield Students Aug. 11

(BLOOMFIELD) - The first official day for students of the 2016-2017 School Year of the Bloomfield School District will be Thursday, August 11.

Students at Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School are invited to registration on Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 to 7 p.m.

Registration at Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School will continue on Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. All new students enrolling at Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School are invited to call 812-384-4550 to set up an appointment on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Seventh grade students are invited to orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 from 9 to 11 a.m.

New elementary students and parents to the district should plan on reporting to Bloomfield Elementary School for registration. The office of Bloomfield Elementary School reopens on Thursday, July 28 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.

Returning students and parents at Bloomfield Elementary School do not need to report for registration. Returning students and parents at Bloomfield Elementary may pay book rental on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016 during the "Meet the Teacher" event from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Students without legal settlement in Bloomfield School District may attend the district without a transfer tuition fee. Parents and families interested in this option should contact the appropriate building principal. An application process is required for all non-resident students.

The following information is provided to assist families in registering and contacting the appropriate school personnel: office hours beginning July 28, prior to the opening of school are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and after Thursday, Aug. 11, the school office hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the 2016-2017 school year.

For those riding school bus transportation, bus routes remain the same in terms of the bus driver from the conclusion of the 2016-2017 school year. Parents of new students may check with the school for bus route numbers or contact the Superintendent's office at 812-384-4507.

Payments for book rental and other fees may be made during registration at Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School on Tuesday, Aug. 2 or Wednesday, Aug. 3. Book rental and other fees can also be paid in the high school or elementary office on the first student day.

Rental payments and fees can also be paid at the "Meet the Teacher" night on Wednesday, Aug. 10 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Student cafeteria prices are as follows: Student lunch at the high school is $2.75 and $0.40 on the reduced price plan. Lunch prices for junior high and elementary is $2.55 and $0.40 for those students on the reduced price plan. Cold cereals will be available for breakfast on Thursday, Aug. 11. Hot breakfast items will be available for both buildings beginning on Monday, Aug. 15. Breakfast price is $1.50, regular and $0.30 for those students on the reduced price plan. Students may purchase extra milk for $0.40 daily.

Parents may access "My School Bucks" meal tracker system at www.myschoolbucks.com Parents will need to set up an account and enter their child's information.

The account allows parents to submit lunch payment electronically and to check the types of items their children are purchasing for lunch and breakfast.

Elementary parents driving their children to school are reminded to utilize the unloading zone on the north side of West South Street. West South Street is one way from the corner of South John Street and West South Street west to the corner of West South Street and South Cleveland Street.

Please keep in mind that students are not allowed in the building prior to 8 a.m. daily.

All students at both schools will be issued a student handbook that explains important expectations for students, events throughout the school year, policies and procedures, and opportunities for students and parents to be actively involved with their child's education. All parents and guardians are always welcome at our educational facilities.

Parents should report to the school office upon arrival during school hours.

The Spring Street entrance to the Jr./Sr. High School requires parents to contact the office via intercom, prior to access to the school building being allowed during normal school hours of 8:10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents gain entrance to Bloomfield Elementary through the Principal's office.

Parents should have photo identification upon attempting to gain access to Bloomfield Jr.-Sr. High School or Bloomfield Elementary School.
