Bloomfield Businessman Recognized By Forbes

Last updated on Friday, July 22, 2016

(BLOOMFIELD) - Soy-Yer Dough, owned by Bloomfield graduate Sawyer Sparks, was listed as one of the “Top 10 Toys from Shark Tank” on July 9.

Soy-Yer Dough is a gluten-free, non-toxic modeling dough with various scents, according to Forbes.

Sparks says he was inspired to create the product while he was studying at Purdue when a professor told him that she and her daughter suffered from Celiac Disease meaning neither could have wheat products.

Play-Doh's primary ingredient is wheat.

According to the Greene County Daily World Soy-Yer Dough appeared on Shark Tank in 2009 and the product was released 30 days later in 12 different colors and scents - including glow in the dark.

The product is popular on the east and west coasts, but hasn't seen much popularity locally.

Sparks sas the closest retailer can be found in Indianapolis, or bought on Amazon so he is attempting to get it to retailers closer to home.

Soy-Yer Dough is produced in Bloomfield by several part-time employees from May to December.

"We get a lot of orders for back to school time and Christmas," Sparks says. "It's a little more expensive than Play-Doh, but it's eco-friendly and a safe product. We've had teachers contact us and tell us that kids don't feel left out when they replace Play-Doh with our product."

Soy-Yer Dough will have another article in Forbes some time in the next month that will highlight the Bloomfield area.
