Updated - Bedford 13 & Under Intermediate Little League Headed To World Series

Last updated on Thursday, July 28, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Bedford’s 13 & Under Intermediate Little League team is headed to the World Series Game in Livermore, California.

Tournament play begins July 31 with the Championship Game to be held at 5:30 p.m. PST on Sunday August 7th.

The boys will fly to California tomorrow from Detroit, Michigan at 6 a.m.

According to Adam Thomas, whose nephew Garret plays on the team coached by Jeff Callahan, the boys fought hard for the win.

The boys took the field at 8 a.m this morning in Michigan facing an Ohio team.

"They were behind most of the game," says Thomas, who was receiving play-by-play from his mother who was at the game.

Bedford was finally able to tie the game, but in the sixth inning Ohio took a 2 run lead.

"They tied it back up at the bottom of the seventh," Thomas says. "Then got a run in to win. This is the first time a Bedford team will be in the World Series."

Coach Callahan says Evin Waggoner hit in a 2 run homerun to tie the game.

Bedford won 7 to 6 with Cole Karr bringing in the winning run at the bottom of the seventh with two outs.

"When my mom called everyone was screaming and crying," Thomas says. "The boys and parents were so excited. They have worked so hard for this win... practicing every day. These boys have been together for around six years working toward this... It is a once in a lifetime opportunity."
