(BROWNSTOWN) - A two-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on East U.S. 50, west of Brownstown, was sparked by one of the driver trying to shoo a wasp out of her vehicle.
According to a Jackson County Police report, 71-year-old Shirley Cummings of Heltonville and 53-year-old Kyle Hinderlider of Seymour both suffered broken bones in the crash on the east end of the bridge over the East Fork of White River.
Both were taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour after being freed from their trucks by Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department firefighters.
According to police, Cummings was driving a 2003 Chevrolet half-ton pickup and pulling a trailer carrying a small boat eastbound when she attempted to get the wasp out of the truck. Cummings' truck crossed the centerline and struck Hinderlider's 1996 Ford 150 pickup head on.
Hinderlider was pulling a trailer holding a mower and other lawn care equipment.
