(UNDATED) - The Greene County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of a telephone scammer operating in Greene and Monroe Counties.

The man is using the name of "Rob Jones," and telling residents he is an investigator with the Greene County Sheriff's Department. He is calling from these phone numbers: (812) 624-1548 and (812) 269-1868.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department does not employ a Rob Jones, and law enforcement agencies will not make a call of this nature.

The man is telling residents he is with the warrant citation division and they have missed appearing for a Federal Grand Jury, and an officer will be coming to make an arrest. He also has the resident's middle initial and address.

The man then leaves a call-back number. Detectives with the Greene County Sheriff's Department has called both numbers listed above, and the call transfers to an answering service.

The man then attempts to solicit money, information or availability of the homeowner.

Residents are warned not to release any information or give this individual any money.
