Hoosier National Forest Photo Contest Winners Announced

Last updated on Friday, June 10, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Robert Arnold and Cory Young won the first round of the Capture the Forest Photo contest.

This group of photographs was divided into two categories: natural features and outdoor recreation. Categories may vary in the future.

Arnold, from Indianapolis won first and second place in the outdoor recreation category. Young, of Oakland City, won first place in the natural feature category. The second place winner did not respond. Thirty-three photos were submitted.

"It was hard to select the top photos," said Stacy Duke, who coordinated the first panel of judges for the contest. "They were all very good, and within our group, we each had our favorites so it was hard to come to a concensus and decide ultimately on which were the best." Duke said they can't wait to see what the next group of photos will include.

The photo contest is on-going and with the outdoor recreation season in full swing, Duke encourages people to take their cameras or smart phones when they visit the Hoosier to capture a few great shots. Andrea Crain, Public Affairs Officer, agrees. She looks forward to people visiting the Hoosier to make memories and then capturing those memories to share.

There are several ways to submit your photos, you can share your best pictures with the hashtag ‪#‎capturetheforest or you can email the photos to Andrea Crain at acrain@fs.fed.us . Crain is the new contact for the photo contest. The photo contest will continue throughout the year. The next winners will be selected at the end of summer.

Arnold and Young each received a gift certificate to the Hoosier National Forest nature store.

Selected photos may be shared on social media, posted on our website, or displayed at the Hoosier National Forest offices. Unless the photo is taken at an organized event, please ensure that anyone recognizable in the photo is okay with being photographed and aware that you are submitting the picture.

Any photo submitted must be taken on the Hoosier National Forest. Other than that- whatever the photographer choose for a subject, is fine. Forest staff want to see pictures in all seasons. Have fun with this and Forest judges are looking forward to the next group of photographs.
