Oolitic Festival Queen Will Be Crowned Tonight

(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Festival will kick off tonight with the crowning of festival princesses and queen.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. in the Oolitic Middle School gym

This year's festival theme is "The Year Of Giving."

And those giving it their best shot to earn the title of Oolitic Idol will be taking the stage on Friday night.

At 5 p.m. Oolitic Idol will kick off on Main Street then at 7 p.m. Idol duets will perform.

Judges for the Idol contest will be Jay Black, Michelle Hardman and Johnny Niece. Judging the duet competition will be Mark Fugate, Larry Hardman and Tara Ramey.

Those claiming 1st, 2nd and third place will receive trophies. First place winners will also receive Idol t-shirts and will be interviewed by DJ Rick St. Nick on Super Oldies 105.5 WQRK. The Idol winner will also sing the National Anthem at the fireworks Saturday night.

Activities on Saturday include amusements, a play area for kids, basketball tournament, baby contest and parade.

Grand marshals seven Marine Reserve veteran all from Oolitic: Veterans Dennis Lackey, Bill Blackwell, Terry Graves, Ronnie Blackburn, and Mike Strunk will ride in Jeeps in the parade. The festival will also salute posthumously honor veterans Jack Chorley and Charles Lee Turner.
