Last updated on Friday, June 17, 2016

(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell man suffered head injuries after he crashed his moped on Rabbitsville Road Thursday evening.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 54-year-old Sean Hawk was traveling northbound on Rabbitsville Road and according to a witness drove off the side of the road for about 64 feet and flipped the scooter.

A Seals and IU Health Hospital ambulance crew responded along with Marion Volunteer Fire Department.

When police arrived, Hawk was unconscious and being treated by an ambulance crew.

Hawk, who suffered head injuries and abrasions and bleeding to his face, was not wearing a helmet.

Hawk was taken by ambulance to a landing area of Statflight medical helicopter.

Hawk became combative and refused to be flown to the hospital. Because he was being combative the helicopter crew refused to transport him.

Hawk, who was intoxicated, was then taken to St.Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.

He refused to provide a chemical test. A warrant was issued to obtain a blood draw. Those results will be forward to the prosecutor's office for review.
