Hoosier National Forest Hosts Several Educational Events

(BEDFORD) - The Hoosier National Forest has a full schedule of opportunities to learn more about nature and get outdoors over the summer months.

Several extra programs are planned at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and Brooks Cabin.

Friday, June 10, 9 pm - Watch the movie "Frozen" with popcorn, at the Hardin Ridge Amphitheater.

Sunday, June 12, 10 am - 3 pm - Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations and Leave No Trace ethics will be taught at the Brooks Cabin by Yvette Rollins from the Hoosier Backcountry Horsemen. She'll have samples and teach how to limit your impacts on the land.

Friday, June 17, 3 pm - Afternoon Hike on the ted T. Turtle Trail (1.2 miles). Meet at the Hardin Ridge Amphitheater.

Saturday, June 18, 9 pm - Have popcorn and view the movie "Finding Nemo" at the Hardin Ridge Amphitheater.

Saturday, June 18, 9 am - 3 pm - Get Outdoors Day in Bedford at Murray Forest Park on SR 58. Hosted by the Hoosier National Forest this free event will host 28 different outdoor activities for kids, including horseback riding, archery, mountain biking, and more.

Friday, June 24, 3:30 pm - Outdoor crafts are offered in the picnic shelter by the amphitheater at Hardin Ridge Recreation Area.

Saturday, June 25, 9 pm - Watch the movie "Rio" and have popcorn at the Hardin Ridge Amphitheater.

Saturday, June 25, 9 am - 1 pm CST - Adventures With Nature features outdoor safety in a fun setting next to the beach at Tipsaw Lake. This family event is located at Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area. The event is free.

Hardin Ridge Recreation Area and the Brooks Cabin are both located just off SR 446 in Monroe County. Murray Forest Park is located in Bedford next to Stalker School. Tipsaw Recreation Area is located in Perry County just south of I-64.

All events are free, although a gate fee of $5/vehicle will be charged at the recreation areas. Brooks Cabin and Murray Forest Park are free.
