Head-On Collision Sends Three To Hospital

(SHOALS) - On Sunday at 4:24 p.m., the Martin County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a head-on collision near Hickory Ridge on State Road 450.

According to police, 55-year-old Carolyn Sims of Shoals was traveling southwest on Ind. 450 in a 2001 PT Cruiser and was entering a curve when she went completely left of the center line and struck an on coming 2010 Ford Explorer driven by 44-year-old Julia Jackson, of Shoals.

Sims' vehicle spun completely around and stopped in the westbound lane partially off the roadway.

Two people in Jackson's vehicle, a 12-year-old and 61-year-old Ruby Staggs were injured and transported by an IU Health Hospital ambulance to IU Health Hospital in Bedford.

Sims was taken to Daviess Community Hospital by an Alert 2 ambulance crew and later flown by Lifeline helicopter to Saint Mary's Hospital in Evansville.

Investigating the accident was Martin County Capt. Tony Dant, who was assisted by Indiana State Trooper Allen and Shoals Fire Department.
