(BEDFORD) - The former manager of the now closed Hub restaurant in Mitchell - Tammy G. Mann - has plead guilty to stealing more than $100,000 in cash, gift cards and equipment from the restaurant.
Mann pleaded guilty in a negotiated plea agreement. Under the terms of that agreement Mann will be sentenced to two and a half years with the Indiana Department of Correction. That sentence was suspended with one year to be served on supervised probation and the remaining one and a half years on unsupervised probation.
Mann was hired by Hub owner Howard Hinman to manage the restaurant in December 2013. She and her husband
Rodney Mann took over the restaurant's operations. They previously operated the Maple Street Restaurant in Orleans, but shut it down a few months before they came to the Hub.
Mann then discovered that Tammy had been stealing from the restaurant and reported the crime to the Indiana State Police.
Police estimated $67,000 was stolen in the form of equipment and gift cards.
A Lawrence County Superior Court I probable cause affidavit reports Hinman had provided troopers with statements saying that during the time Mann managed the restaurant, it lost $15,899.22 in cash
"Through Mann's manipulation of daily spreadsheets, unauthorized gift certificates and false expense entries for payments to the Manns that were never authorized."
The document stated Hinman estimated that $18,600 in equipment was missing and that about $14,040 in unauthorized free food provided to Tammy Mann's son also was missing, along with $14,123 in unsubstantiated debt to food suppliers for food products ordered by Rodney Mann at Tammy Mann's request.
Hinman says Mann stole items like silverware and food processors and had taken them to scrap yards or sold them for her own profit and had replaced the them with less valuable items from the Maple Street establishment.
In a Facebook post Himman wrote that they were relieved Mann voluntarily plead guilty to felony theft from the Hub Restaurant and was sentenced.
"As part of her probation, she is required to pay restitution in an amount much smaller than she actually stole from us, but are none the less appreciative of the excellent investigative work performed by the Indiana State Police, the resulting criminal case filed against her as a result of their findings and the work performed by the Lawrence County prosecutor, which led to the resulting guilty plea."
Hinman has sold the Hub building to Blaine Lannan and Caylan Evans, who purchased The Keg and are expanding the liquor store into the former restaurant space.
