(BLOOMFIELD) - A former Richland Township firefighter is in Greene County Jail facing three felony child molesting charges.

37-year-old Adam B. Carver of Bloomfield was arrested on preliminary charges of two counts Class C felony child molesting and Class A felony child molesting where the child is under 14 years old. His bond is set at $60,000. An initial hearing is scheduled for June 13 at 1:45 p.m.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Greene Superior Court, the charges stem from a complaint filed by the mother of a child who alleged Carver acted inappropriately with the child. The child does not currently live in the state, but said the incident happened during a visit to Carver's residence a year or two before.

Det. Michael Keeton with the Kentucky State Police contacted Greene County Department of Child Services Family Case Manager Jim Dwyer with the initial complaint in October 2015. In November of last year, the Kentucky detective interviewed the mother of the child and the victim.

The child allegedly told police about the incident because she "just needed to get it out of (child's) system."

In December 2015, Carver blamed the child's mother for "brainwashing" the child and stated the child was "mentally handicapped." He allegedly told investigators the child's mother may have been "telling her so much and child is believing, yeah, he did this."

Later in the interview, Carver stated concern about his explaining sexual acts to the child in a supposed effort to protect the child, and that may have caused some confusion.

The probable cause states after asking Carver if he showed the child his genitals, he said yes, but was trying to educate the child.

"Well, yeah in the bathroom. I said this here, I said if you see this here, if any guy tries to get you to do anything, you know, grabbed her hands, I mean I had her and I said don't let them do this," the report states.

The investigators asked at any point during the conversation if the child actually touched his genitals, and he said no at first. He later said, "As far as I know. I mean, I would never dream of doing anything like that."

Carver later agreed to a polygraph test, which was taken last month. The probable cause states he ultimately admitted to the allegations, but the act in question lasted "20-30 seconds to a minute." He also allegedly told the polygraph examiner "he thought it was wrong, so he stopped."

Carver has not seen the victim since the summer of 2012.

Carver formerly served on the Richland Township Fire Department, but was removed from the department late Friday, according to a press release issued by the department.

"The moment we learned of his charges, he was immediately terminated from membership at this department, pending the resolution of his criminal cases," Richland Township Fire Chief Ken Hinkle said.

The chief declined to comment any further on the issue because of the active investigation.
