Drug Abuse Blamed For Large Number Of Children Being Removed From Homes

Last updated on Thursday, June 9, 2016

(UNDATED) - Drug abuse is being blamed for a large number of children being removed from their homes.

The Indiana Department of Child Services says the number of children being removed from their homes jumped 61 percent from 2012 to 2016. An increase each year since 2012.

James B. Wide of the Department of Child Services links the large increase to the use of heroin, meth, cocaine and prescription drugs. Because of the addiction problem the number of children removed by DCS is likely to continue to rise because parents are choosing the drugs over their family and children.
