(CROTHERSVILLE) - A Crothersville man was arrested Saturday after his 3-year-old son wandered from his home while he was sleeping.

Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Crothersville Police officers were called to the 6000 block of County Road 1025 East, just outside of Crothersville after a report of a toddler wearing only a t-shirt was spotted wandering along the roadway.

The boy was about 1/10 of a mile from his home. Officers took the child back to his home but could not get anyone to answer the door. The child ran back inside the residence. At that point, officer believed the child was home alone.

Officers entered the home and found poor living conditions throughout the house as they continued to look for anyone who was caring for the toddler.

Police found the toddler's 11-year-old brother in a bedroom on the second floor. The brother told police that both of them were home alone and he didn't realize his younger brother had left the home.

The older boy also told police the family had no phone so he couldn't call any adults who lived there.

As officers continued to check the home they found the children's father 49-year-old Raymond Davis II, asleep in a room on the third floor. He had to be awakened by the officers.

He told police he didn't know he had been left to watch his sons after the grandparents had left.

Officers arrested Davis for neglect of a dependent. He is being held without bond in the Jackson County Jail.
