(BLOOMFIELD) - Less than three months after guiding his alma mater to the Class A state championship game, Bloomfield boys basketball coach Matt Britton is stepping aside.

The Greene County Daily World reports that the 10-year veteran coach will remain on staff at Bloomfield as teacher and has no immediate plans to coach elsewhere. He is resigning from his coaching position to spend more time at home with his family.

Britton concluded his fifth season as head coach of the Cardinals and compiled a 74-47 record including a 26-4 campaign this past season.

He helped guide the Cardinals to the state championship game this past March, where the Cardinals fell to Liberty Christian, 64-45.

It was the first state finals appearance for Bloomfield since a Class A berth in 1998 -- the first year of class basketball in Indiana.

Britton amassed a 156-95 record in 10 overall seasons with previous stops at South Spencer, West Washington and Effingham St. Anthony (IL).

The 1996 Bloomfield grad, who teaches science and history, has two young daughters, Trinity (10) and Haley (8) at home with wife of 12 years, Dana.
