Last updated on Thursday, June 23, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Bedford City Utilities received permission from the Board of Works to add valves to three main water lines eliminating the need to shut off water during breaks and leaks, thus reducing the number of boil orders and water outages for residents.

Utilities Director Misty Adams says the cut-in valves will allow crews to isolate a leak without shutting down water lines.

The cut-in valves will be installed by Infrastructure Systems Inc, of Orleans for $80,732. The valves will be place on three main lines that draw water from the White River up to the Bedford Filtration Plant.

The Board of Works also approved Lineal Contracting, to install 2,000 feet of 6-inch water line on Norton Lane to replace bad pipes on Norton Lane. The cost of the project is $50,000.
