Last updated on Thursday, June 23, 2016

(BEDFORD) - Everyone is invited to attend the 7th Annual Hoosier Hills Armed Forces Families Association Support Our Troops Ride and Support Injured Vets on Saturday.

This event will always be the fourth Saturday in June every year, so please mark your calendars. If the weather is bad the ride will be Sunday, June 26.

The cost to ride is $25 per bike; passengers are free. The cost includes a meal and entertainment. Registration will take place at the National Guard Armory at 2020 19th St. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the ride beginning at 11:05 a.m.

If you know of a veteran who has been injured while serving the United States and that could use a little help, please submit his/her name in a private message to submit a nominee.

Proceeds for this event are used to provide care packages sent throughout the year to those serving, emergency leave grants given to any soldier coming home due to a family emergency, Mother's Day corsages and help injured veterans pay for special needs or wishes, plus much more.

You don't have to ride to participate. Tickets will be available for those who just want to eat, participate in the silent auction and listen to music.

The a non-profit 501(c) (4) organization was founded by the American Red Cross Hoosier Hills chapter and Betsy Henley in 2003.

The organization is asking that residents go to 16th Street and Brian Lane Way hold flags to show their support for the troops and veterans. Riders will leave the National Guard Armory at 11:05 a.m. then turn left on Brian Lane Way and then left on 16th Street to head toward Ind. 37.

"More than 50 percent of our riders are veterans and some are currently serving and many have family members serving and it really touches the heart to see the support and see people waving their flags," says Kimberly Johnson, an organizer of the event.
