(BEDFORD) - StoneBridge Health Campus, owned by Trilogy Health Services LLC, donated $1,000 to Bertha’s Mission this afternoon.
The event was held at 1 p.m. with everyone attending wearing a red nose and "got their silly on" - because the event is being held in conjunction with Red Nose Day.
The Red Nose campaign is dedicated to helping children and having fun. Proceeds benefit children and young people in the United States and some of the poorest communities in the world.
Bertha's Mission will use the money to feed the hungry here in Lawrence County. Founder and CEO of Bertha's Mission Janice Nickeo Pendergrass accepted the check for $1,000.
The Mission's goal is to gradually decrease the statistical data on hunger within our community by feeding the children, homeless, low income, disabled, aging and lonely citizens of Lawrence County.
This event is the kick off for Independence from Hunger, one of two annual fundraisers that Trilogy Health Services conducts.
The Independence from Hunger Food Drive is designed to help members of our community that may be in need.
Last year, the teams raised nearly 949,000 pounds of food. This food is donated to local food banks and non-profit organizations to support those in need.
Kim Watson, community service representative for Stonebridge, says the goal it to bring awareness to community needs.
"Many people want to help, but they just don't know how," Watson added. "At this event they can come out and meet and greet other members from the community. Anything we can do to help our children is helping our future. We want everyone to come out and join us."
StoneBridge also raises funds for Blessings in a Backpack for Lincoln Elementary School children which is directed locally by the L.I.F.E. Food Pantry.
Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children who might otherwise go hungry. Watson says it takes $80 per student to fill their backpack for a year.
"Our children are our future," Watson says. "And this is a way we can help locally to help our future become stronger."
What better way to help than to donate to Bertha's Mission, Independence from Hunger, Blessings in a Backpack, Red Nose Campaign and the L.I.F.E. Food Pantry.
Community members wanting to donate to any of the organizations can do so by donating can goods or paper products to either Bertha's Mission or L.I.F.E. Food Pantry. You can also make monetary donations to Blessings In A Backpack or any of the organizations.
