(MITCHELL) - Thanks to a grant from the Indiana Animal Health Foundation and Service Animal Support Veterinarians Jerry and Karen Rusch of Spring Mill Veterinary Service will be able to treat the county police dogs free of charge.
Lawrence County Capt. Andrew Phillips told the Times-Mail he has been taking his dog Neko to Spring Mill Veterinary Service for years because the veterinary service doesn't bill the county department for routine care, such as flea, tick and heart-worm medications and rabies vaccinations, which saves taxpayers about $600 a year per dog.
Jerry and Karen Rusch are holding onto the $500 grant they received, and it will go toward providing care for canines, Neko and Suri.
Throughout the years that Neko and Suri both have received treatment at Spring Mill, Phillips estimated they have provided thousands of dollars in care to the police dogs.
