Salem Man Lifelined After Motorcycle Collides With Deer

(BEDFORD) - A Salem man suffered head injuries after his motorcycle collided with a deer on U.S.50 East on Sunday.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, the accident happened on U.S. 50 East near Stove Road at 5:33 p.m.

51-year-old Robert Douglas was traveling east on U.S.50 when the deer darted in front of his 2011 Yamaha XVS950.

Douglas, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and was found laying on the south side of U.S. 50 East, about 15 yards east of his motorcycle.

Douglas was conscious and talking to the officer following the incident. He suffered a laceration to his face, forehead and mouth injuries and contusions to his body. He was having difficulty breathing and was suffering from a possible broken left arm.

He was taken to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital and then flown by Air Evac to Ezkenazi Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment.

Assisting at the scene was a Seals ambulance crew and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department
