Public Invited To Welcome New City Of Bloomington Arts Administrator

(BLOOMINGTON) - The Department of Economic and Sustainable Development will host a Town Hall/Reception to introduce to the community their recent staffing addition: Assistant Director for the Arts Sean Starowitz. Mayor Hamilton, Interim Director of Economic and Sustainable Development Linda Williamson.

Members of the Arts Commission encourage all those interested in welcoming Starowitz to his new position to join them in City Hall Council Chambers at 401 N. Morton Street, on Wednesday, June 1 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a reception following.

Starowitz is planning a brief presentation about his background and prior work in the areas of the arts and community wealth, cultural equality and community-driven design. A question and answer period will follow Starowitz' comments.

Starowitz is a 2010 graduate of the Interdisciplinary Arts program at the Kansas City Art Institute and a 2012 Rocket Grant recipient with support from the Charlotte St. Foundation, Spencer Museum of Art and the Andy Warhol Foundation. He was the artist-in-residence at the Farm to Market Bread Company from 2010 to 2015. In 2014 he was a Charlotte Street Foundation Visual Art Award Fellow. For the past year, he was an AmeriCorp VISTA with the Rural Policy Research Institute in central Appalachia working on a Rural Creative Placemaking Initiative.
