Last updated on Wednesday, May 25, 2016

(SULLIVAN CO.) - Tuesday afternoon at 3:39, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to a motorcycle crash on County Road 3 Southeast, approximately one-half mile east of Carlisle.

According to police, 36-year-old Marc Phegley of Carlisle was traveling west on his 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle and, for an unknown reason, left the roadway on the south side and traveled into a ditch ejecting Phegley from the bike. Minutes later, Phegley was able to make his way to a house nearly one-quarter of mile away as a passing motorist called 911 for help.

He was stabilized by members of Sullivan County EMS and Haddon Township Fire/Rescue and then airlifted by Lifeline Air Medical to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Police say his injuries appear to be serious and possibly life-threatening.

Phegley was not wearing a helmet and alcohol appears to be a factor. Investigation is continuing and alcohol related charges may develop at a later date.

The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Justin Bell. Assisting were Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, Sullivan County EMS, Carlisle Town Marshal, and Haddon Township Fire/Rescue.
