(BEDFORD) - A Mitchell woman was arrested Thursday on a warrant after Bedford Police say she stole money from a local nursing home and used someone’s identity to obtain prescription drugs.
Police arrested 29-year-old Dara Little on charges of forgery, identity deception, theft and obtaining or attempting to obtain legend drugs by fraud. She was booked into the Lawrence County jail at 6:01 p.m. Thursday and posted a $755 bond and was released the same day.
According to a probably cause affidavit, on December 22, 2015, officers with the Bedford Police Department were called to Bliss Place on Shawnee Drive after a report of payroll fraud.
Officers spoke to the executive director of the facility who told police that a former employee was receiving paychecks when she should not have received any after October 6, 2015.
After reviewing the records, it was discovered that the former employee's direct deposit information had changed to Little's bank account. Police obtained a subpoena for both the former employee's bank account and Little's bank account. They discovered four additional paychecks were deposited into Little's account from October through December.
Police spoke to the former employee who said Little, who worked for the nursing home, called her in September 2015 to obtain her payroll password. The former employee said Little told her she just wanted to make sure she received all of her pay. Police say the former employee did not give Little permission to user her personal information to receive the payroll checks.
On January 6, police were called again to Bliss Place for a separate fraud report.
The executive director told police that a resident received billing information for medication that was discontinued in May 2015 because it made the resident nauseous.
Police discovered prescriptions were filled for this resident eight times from June through December after the resident stopped taking the medication.
Police say Little made multiple calls to doctors' offices to request refills of the medication for the resident, then signed for the drug when it was delivered to Bliss Place.
Police say none of the medication was checked into the resident's medicine cart after Little signed for them.
