(JACKSON CO.) - A high-speed chase in Jackson County landed a woman behind bars.

A Jackson County Sheriff's Department Spokesperson says that at 2:48 p.m. on Monday, a deputy reportedly saw a vehicle run through a stop sign at the intersection of County Roads 100 East and 600 North.

The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused and that led to a pursuit with speeds between 60 to 100 miles per hour.

Authorities say the chase continued to the intersection of CR 400 East and 600 North, when the vehicle continued north into Cortland, before heading east on State Road 258.

Police say the chase came to an end when the driver, Melissa S. Burton, stopped her vehicle on State Road 258 and Bell Ford Drive, just outside of Seymour.

Burton was arrested on a preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle. Burton was also wanted on warrant out of Jackson Circuit Court.

Burton's passenger, who was not identified, was not arrested.
