(BLOOMFIELD) - It’s in the headlines nearly every day: a child experiencing some sort of trauma. Whether it be violence, abuse, a car crash or bullying, trauma can change young lives forever. It also changes the ways in which adults must approach children in order to form positive relationships.
That's why the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is partnering with Purdue Extension Greene County to host a seminar on how adults can learn to see the world in the same way children affected by trauma see it. The event is part of IYI's Youth Worker Café series. It will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7 at the Green County Community Event Center, located at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds, 4503 West State Road 54 in Bloomfield.
Christa Turpin is the women's advocate at Middle Way House, Inc. Turpin will help attendees understand how traumatic experiences can alter a child's belief system and the way that young person sees the world. Attendees will learn ways to help children cope with trauma and develop appropriate coping skills.
