Last updated on Monday, May 9, 2016

(MITCHELL) - Four people were hurt Sunday morning when the van they were in crashed into a gate.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 29-year-old Yvonne Haste of Mitchell was driving a 2003 Pontiac Montana west on State Road 60 West near Mounce Road when she lost control of the van attempting to avoid a large bird in the roadway.

Police say the van began skidding sideways, left the north side of the road, went into a ditch and slid into a gate and fence, causing the van to flip and land on its top.

Haste and the 14-year-old passenger were flung from the vehicle. Neither were wearing seat belts during the incident.

Yvonne Haste suffered a possible fractured hip. The 14-year-old complained of body pain.

Two other passengers suffered bruises and complained of body pain.

An Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital and Seals ambulance transported the injured to local hospitals.

Huron Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
